Coin can also be found as an upset. That is the Obverse is out of alignment with the Reverse. During the production of these coins, the Obverse die broke it's retaining shaft and gradually rotated with each minting of a new coin. Whether or not this picked up during the minting process I have not been able to find out but one thing is for sure, these error coins did go into circulation. I have found in excess of 400 of these upsets and still retain retain approx 350 in my own collection. I have sold one on EBay for $134.00 but the last sale only fetched $45.99. Not a bad return for a $1 coin.
