Toronto Transit Commission 2006

Material : Bi-metallic Brass (ring) and Copper-Nickel (center)
General Description : The tokens used prior to 1954 were brass coins. In 1954, these were replaced by light-weight aluminium tokens produced by the Royal Canadian Mint. Counterfeiting forced the retirement of 30 million aluminium tokens, some from 1954, in 2006. They were replaced by a heavier, bi-metal design starting in November 2006. The old tokens were no longer accepted after 1 February 2007, but could still be exchanged in person until until 28 February 2007. All tokens have been the same diameter, slightly smaller than a dime.
Front Description : In the centre of a brass diagonally serrated ring is the Toronto Transit Commission's current logo.
Back Description : Inside the brass ring is Valid for Once Fare around the Toronto Transit System's Crest.
Diameter : 16.00 mm.
Price : $3.00
