General Description The design of this bill illustrates the life of Domingo Faustino Sarmiento who was an Argentine activist, intellectual, and writer, and the seventh President of Argentina. Sarmiento himself was particularly concerned with educational issues, scientific progress and cultural development. His impactis seen in the establishment of Latin American Teacher's Day in his honor at the 1943 Interamerican Conference on Education.
Front Description The main impression shows the portrait of Sarmiento and the background reproduces the manuscript "Life of Dominguito" biography of his adopted son fallen in battle of Curupaytí during the War of the Triple Alliance.
The main motifs are printed in intaglio and the backgrounds in offset
Back Description It shows the Casa de Gobierno or Casa Rosada (the Government House or Pink House), the official seat of the executive branch of the government of Argentina, and of the offices of the President. In adition displays a biographical summary of Sarmiento and several motifs related to his various activities:
Railways: on August 30, 1857 he inaugurated the first railway in the country begining service with "La Porteña", locomotive built in England.
Immigration: he emphasized the importance of immigration and during his presidency he tripled it over the previous six years.
Writer and journalist, published his magnum opus "Civilización y Barbarie. Vida de Juan F. Quiroga" in "El Progreso" newspaper (Chile).
