General Description On March 26, 1991, Argentina with Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay formed the Mercado Comun del Sur (Mercosur) in order to form an economic area as of December 31, 1994, whit free movement of goods, services and productive factors among their respective nations.
In this context, two circulation coins where issued in 1998, referring to the Pro Tempore Presidency of Argentina, with values of 1 Peso and 50 Centavos, both with similar characteristics to those currently in circulation. Both coins can be found alone or presented together in cardboard boxes whit a brief history, and the features and specifications of the minted pieces.
Obv. Description In the central field, in relief, displays the logotype of the Mercosur. In the upper arch shows the legend "REPUBLICA ARGENTINA" and at the bottom “DEMOCRACIA, PAZ, INTEGRACION” (democracy, peace, integration).
Rev. Description The design shows at its center and in relief, the number "1" over the word "Peso". In the upper arch shows between beads the legend “EN UNION Y LIBERTAD” and in the exergue, the year of issue "1998."
