General Description : This Nickel coin with reeded edge was minted by the Royal Canadian Mint in celebration of the Town's 100th anniversary of becoming a town in 1880. Trenton was originally settled in 1784. It was incorporated as a village in 1853 and as a town in 1880. On the occasion of it's centennial of becoming a town, Trenton became a city and in January 1, 1998 was amalgamated into the megacity Quinte West. The population of Trenton according to the 2001 Census is 19,374. The mintage of these commemorative coins is unknown but very low. Weight approx 13 g
Front Description : The coin features the city's crest featuring a Beaver on top and four symbols of industry including lumber, a ship's wheel, a pig, and a bale of grain. The city's slogan is on the bottom of the crest and reads " Labor Omnia Vincit" At the top of the coin is the City's name and province, Trenton, Ontario. At the bottom is the centenial double date of 1880-1980.
Back Description : The reverse features an image of the clock tower form the Old City Hall supper imposed by a map depicting the three counties Trenton is a part of including Hastings, Prince Edward and North Umberland counties. At the top the coin reads One Centennial Dollar at the bottom it reads Expires December 31st, 1980.
