General Description : Shield-shaped gilt bronze and red enamel badge of multi-part construction.
The Order was instituted in 1948 in three classes to reward merit, especially in the field of work but in the event was awarded for achievement in a wide number of fields. In 1965, when the name of the state was changed to the Romanian Socialist Republic, the letters RSR replaced RPR. Unlike many Communist-era eastern European awards, those of Romania are usually of good quality manufacture.
Front Description : the face with a radiant rising stippled orange sun centrally, the lower half imposed on a red enamel ribbon, the letters RPR centrally (for Republica Populară Română) at the base, a laurel wreath, ears of corn, a hammer and sickle and a small red enamel five-pointed star imposed below
Back Description : the reverse plain with vertical pin for wear
