||St. Cyril´s Monastery is a fortified complex of religious buildings in northern Russia . It is one of the largest monasteries in the country. St. Cyril´s Monastery was founded in 1397 on the shores of Lake Siverskoje. It is located in the neighborhood of the city Kirillov , about 110km from the city of Vologda . St. Cyril´s Monastery was the second largest landowner in northern Russia during the 16th century. It became an important commercial and military point of northern northern Russia . During this period there were built first fortress walls and eight towers, surrounded by a total of nine stone churches. Defensive walls, which have two separate priories with 11 churches, have been preserved. St. Cyril´s Monastery has been currently serving as a museum of history, art and architecture.
