General Description : With these stamps, we hope to preserve the legacy of the Canadians whose lives were deeply touched when Titanic sank off our coast.
Canadian Post have unveiled the images that will go on a series of stamps to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic. More than 1,500 people died on April 15, 1912, when the enormous Cunard liner sank after colliding with an iceberg off Newfoundland. The event has been immortalized in story, song and film, and given the centenary, the stamps are but one example of many memorial items.
The Stern: The second stamp pair shows the 3 propellers that were situated at the rear of the ship 2 larger outer propellers and a smaller centre propeller. Again, the stamp pair separates into 2 for mailing.
At the bottom of each stamp sits the House Flag of the White Star Line (Titanic's owners). This iconic red flag flew from Titanic's main mast and was also displayed on her tickets, cutlery and furniture.
Even after 100 years, interest in the Titanic remains strong. This year’s centennial events (including the re-release of James Cameron’s Titanic movie in 3D) will likely bring together a whole new audience of enthusiasts.
