The World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization has recognized the significance of these places, and their irresistible call has been answered by travellers from around the world eager for a glimpse into the art, culture and lives of our ancestors. LUNENBURG - Old Town Lunenburg is featured on one of five new stamps being issued by Canada Post celebrating Canadian UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Old Town Lunenburg was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site back in 1995 because of its distinctive 18th and 19th century European-influenced architecture and because it is the best surviving example of a British colonial settlement in North America. The Lunenburg stamp depicts two individuals rowing a dory out of the harbour with the historic waterfront in the background, punctuated by the iconic image of the bright red Adams & Knickle Ltd. and Lunenburg Outfitting Co. buildings. |
