| General Description : | NHL® Team Jersey Pane of 7 Stamps Pane contains one of each of the NHL Jersey stamps celebrating the Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, Winnipeg Jets, Toronto Maple Leafs, Ottawa Senators and Montréal Canadiens. In the foreground of each stamp, the hockey player wears the team’s current home jersey. In the background of each stamp, a cheering fan sports another version of the team’s jersey. The origins of Canadian hockey began in the mid-1800s and the National Hockey League was created in 1917. Including this year’s issue, Canada Post has produced more than 50 NHL-themed stamps since 1992. The first hockey-themed stamp, featuring three players wearing “Canada” jerseys, was issued on January 23, 1956. Canadians from coast to coast to coast cheer for, believe in, agonize over and speculate about their favourite hockey teams. Whether we’re competing in fantasy hockey pools, collecting cherished player cards, playing shinny on backyard rinks, or chanting wildly from our arena seats, we all dream of sharing the ice with our favourite players and heroes of the past. Almost every Canadian has a memory that relates to hockey and those memories are part of who we are as a country. These stamps commemorate the joy that Canadian fans experience when they wear their favourite team’s jerseys. In Montréal, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver, storied teams contend for the adoration of their fans. What drives these dedicated diehards is pride in the Stanley Cup® dynasties of the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Montreal Canadiens, and the Edmonton Oilers. What rallies their roar is the return of legendary teams like the Ottawa Senators and the Winnipeg Jets. And what fans their frenzy is division rivalry between teams like the Vancouver Canucks and the Calgary Flames. No matter which National Hockey League® (NHL) team they cheer for, fans show their pride by donning the colours of their favourite team. Toronto Maple Leafs®: In the Maple Leafs’ commemorative stamp, the player on the ice wears the current jersey, and the fan sports a vintage look from 1967, Canada’s centennial year. |
