Croatia first participeted at the Olympic Games, under the Croatian flag, at the Winter Olympic Games in Albertville on February 2, 1992. Croatian tennis players Goran Ivanišević and Goran Prpić won the bronze medal and the day after, in the men’s semi-finals, Goran Ivanišević won another bronze medal. At the 25th Olympics in Barcelona, Croatian basketball team won silver medals after playing at an equal level against the best world players - the "Dream team". Croatian waterpolo players had to surrender to the Spanish team on the 26th Olympics in Atlanta and they won the silver medal. As a consequence of a long tradition of handball in Croatia, Croatian handball team won the gold medal at the Olympics in Atlanta. This makes Croatia the strongest handball power, if we take into consideration. the ratio of inhabitants.
