General Description : Amadeo Pietro Giannini, also known as Amadeo Peter Giannini or A.P. Giannini (May 6, 1870 – June 3, 1949), born in San Jose, California.
Amadeo P. Giannini founded the Bank of America and, at the time of his death in 1949, controlled the world's largest banking system. At the age of 13, he went to work in the produce business in San Francisco. He became a partner in the firm, but sold his interest in 1901 to go into banking. His Bank of Italy, founded in 1904, survived the San Francisco earthquake and fire of 1906, then grew through his innovative system of branch banking. The name of his bank was changed to Bank of America in 1930.
