| General Description | In 1994, banknotes were introduced in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 50 and 100 reais. These were followed by 2 reais in 2001 and 20 reais in 2002. In January, 2006, BCB discontinued the production of the 1 real banknote, but it remains legal tender |
