| General Description : | The common, but ever-popular convergent lady beetle (Hippodamia convergens) is a welcome sight across North America. Colloquially referred to as a "ladybug," its unique red-orange colour and black dotted wings, as shown on the 1¢ stamp, seem friendly to humans but are actually intended to warn predators away. This highly predaceous species is a gardener's delight, since the adult beetle and its larva can devour up to 60 aphids a day. |
