32¢ Riverboats far west 1996
Added by Alain Martineau
General Description : The Postal Service issued five 32-cent Riverboats stamps on August 22, 1996, in Orlando, Florida, in conjunction with STAMPSHOW '96.
These stamps feature five designs of riverboats that operated from 1860 to the early 1900s and represent all five regions of the United States. These commercial, inland boats were chosen for their historical significance and visual appeal. The featured riverboats and the river on which they operated are the Robert E. Lee, Mississippi River; Sylvan Dell, East River/Delaware River; Far West, Missouri River; Rebecca Everingham, Apalachicola-Chattahoochee River; Bailey Gatzert, Columbia River/Puget Sound.
This was the first self-adhesive commemorative pane issued by the US Postal Service. To accommodate small and large purchasers, these self-adhesive stamps were issued in sheetlet format, perforated in a wavy design to be separated and sold as single or multiple stamps. The stamps were issued in a pane of twenty (five designs)
