General Description The 2-dollar coin was first introduced on February 19, 1996, to replace the 2-dollar bill also called 'Toonie', by Canadians.
Obv. Description Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at 77 years old, surrounded by the inscription ELIZABETH II D G REGINA. The effigy is reminiscent of that of her father, His Majesty King George VI, who had elected to forgo the crown, on the outer ring, ELIZABETH II D. G. REGINA, maple leaf at top date at bottom
